ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR Bemisia tabaci (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) Biotypes in India

چکیده
Host plant performance, esterase, and virus transmission tests revealed cassava-strain and sweetpotato-strain populations of whiteßy Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) biotypes in India. Individuals from the sweetpotato-reared population did not breed on cassava, Manihot esculenta Crantz, and the cassava-strain-reared individuals failed to develop on sweetpotato, Ipomoea batatus (L.) Lam. Eggplant, Solanum melongena L., and tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum L., were common hosts for both biotypes. The cassava-strain whiteßies but not the sweetpotato-reared whiteßies successfully transmitted cassava mosaic virus from disease-infected cassava seedlings to healthy cassava seedlings. Presence of biotypes in B. tabaci is reported for the Þrst time from India.

متن کاملForaging behaviour of the slender loris (Loris lydekkerianus lydekkerianus): implications for theories of primate origins.
Members of the Order Primates are characterised by a wide overlap of visual fields or optic convergence. It has been proposed that exploitation of either insects or angiosperm products in the terminal branches of trees, and the corresponding complex, three-dimensional environment associated with these foraging strategies, account for visual convergence. Although slender lorises (Loris sp.) are ...
متن کاملRemote Sensing: a Visionary Tool in Malaria Epidemiology
Malaria is still a major public health problem. In India nearly 2-3 million cases occur every year with about 1000 deaths. Control of malaria requires case detection and treatment of affected individuals, and for curtailment of malaria transmission, control of mosquito vectors is undertaken. Vector control requires knowledge of the ecology of breeding and resting habitats and behaviour of vario...
متن کاملBreeding season, courtship behaviour, and territoriality of White and Japanese Wagtails Motacilla alba and M. grandis
The breeding ecology of White and Japanese Wagtails, Motacilla alba and M . grandis, was studied along a river in central Japan. The home ranges of the two species greatly overlapped along the river, but no interbreeding occurred. M. grandis spent more time on the river than M . alba and defended territories there. M . alba used the river as part of the entire home range, and did not defend the...
